Korea's invasion of Western culture and fashion has been an admirable miracle. An idea becomes brilliant when it is carried out with passion and a certain dose of wisdom, virtue and treasure that the East has never underestimated and that returns direct and indirect benefits of 10.3 billion dollars. Until a few days ago, I was one of those citizens surprised by this impact. I was surprised that so many teenagers had a soft spot for K-dramas. Accustomed to independent European cinema, I armed myself with patience and threw away my skepticism. I lay on the sofa next to my 10-year-old daughter, ready to be bored for eighty minutes watching a love story to the rhythm of chachachá, but the opposite happened. Life gives you surprises. I learned a lot from watching the history of a small town on the Korean coast and it helped me bury cheap prejudices. A town is any town in the world, with its elders, its farmers, its festivals and its gossips. The East gives us a lesson in delicacy in its way of dealing with love, friendship, our role in society, stress, trauma, loneliness and pain. In general, quite realistic and human stories told with exquisite tenderness, sometimes exaggerated by those jumping bubbles dissolved in a final frame. They can seem extremely modest or even childish, this explains why their audience is mostly teenagers or young people.
