The Board invests more than 80,000 euros in the digitization and signage of tourist resources in Punta Umbría | Heconomia.es - Economic and business information of Huelva
The Territorial Delegate of Tourism of the Board in Huelva, María Ángeles Muriel, visited Punta Umbría today, where she was able to meet with its mayor, Aurora Águedo Borrero, about some of the actions that are going to be carried out thanks to the aid granted by the Ministry this year to the town within the framework of the line that is intended for Andalusian tourist municipalities, and which in this case exceeds 80,000 euros.
The amount will allow the Puntaumbrieño Consistory to carry out the adaptation to new technologies and the improvement of the signage of some of the tourist and cultural resources of the town, such as the house-museum of the English -which received aid last year within this same line for its enhancement-, the tourist office, the Torre Almenara, and the archaeological site of El Eucaliptal, "which has also recovered its splendor and has been opened to the public thanks to these items from the council" .
“Digitization is a necessary ally of tourism, but after this health crisis that we have suffered, it is even more so. From the Ministry led by Juan Marín we want our destinations to have all the tools so that they can give a boost to its implementation. All this will result in an even more excellent offer and better services for those who visit us”, explained the territorial manager during her visit to the Torre Almenara in Punta Umbría.
Muriel has stressed that “with these actions, from the Ministry we collaborate with the municipalities, in this case with Punta Umbría, so that projects, such as this one, can be launched, which allow it to shield its tourist offer and complement it. This tourist town has indisputable attractions that are mainly linked to its incomparable coastline, but also its gastronomy, its culture, its heritage make it a destination to enjoy all year round”.

In line with this, the delegate has stressed that the objective of these grants “is to make it easier for municipalities to reinforce their destinations and advance in deseasonalization, which will allow the maintenance of employment in the sector in the low season months. Our commitment to the sector is firm, we believe that this is a key industry for the economy, and with these new proposals the sector will be strengthened in the locality”.
Finally, the territorial manager has indicated that these grants to the town have been granted annually since its designation as a Tourist Municipality of Andalusia. Thus, last year, thanks to these items (86,413.81 euros), Punta Umbría was able to begin the enhancement of the house-museum of the English and its surroundings, the botanical park of the English, "one of the places most emblematic of the town and that allows preserving and disseminating the existing British historical and cultural heritage in the province of Huelva”. Likewise, in the 2019 call, these aids (84,535.29 euros) have allowed the restoration of the archaeological site of El Eucaliptal, "which was a historical demand of the town and which was inaugurated a few weeks ago on the occasion of tourism day" .
In the call for this 2021, the amount of these aids, in a non-competitive concurrence regime, exceeds 4.4 million euros for all Andalusian tourist municipalities, distributed 50% in two annual installments. The maximum eligible for subsidy results from applying 10% to the participation of the beneficiary entity in Patrica. In the province of Huelva, the towns of Almonte, Aracena, Cartaya, Lepe, Punta Umbría and Isla Cristina have the distinction of being a tourist municipality.
