What would happen to the world if we all used a cloth bag instead of plastic?
The students of the educational institution Democracia y Libertad located in the AA.HH Sol Naciente in Carabayllo are carrying out an action plan, inspired by the reflections of a learning experience where a question called the attention of those: Who or who depends on responsible use of plastic?
And they got to work.
What happened? What the students proposed was to use the cloth bag to go to buy bread, recycle bottles as pots for plants and seek an impetus for the educational community to unite and expand our proposal.
But the students needed to look for information to validate their proposals and have support, which they found and they were the following:
According to the Blue Ocean for the Conservation of the Sea, it is estimated that nearly 100,000 marine mammals and a million birds die annually from this cause or by being trapped in this waste. But that is not all, the invasion of this garbage presents an alarming accumulation towards the future, since we are talking about several tons that are gathering in all the dumps in the world.
There are also fabric bags with cardboard bases that serve as a kind of box for when you need to buy heavier things or things that would not fit in a normal bag. If they seem very uncomfortable to you, you have one more option: carts that have a fabric support and even pockets to keep your belongings more secure.
We must reduce, little by little, the consumption of plastic bags in Peru and throughout the world, so that they stop being produced in large quantities and, at some point, be able to eradicate them. The more people see that you no longer use plastic bags, in order to contribute to the conservation of the environment, the more awareness you will create among others so that they also do the same.
Once becoming aware of the issue, knowing how plastic affects the community in terms of health and the environment; The students of the Democracia y Libertad school have managed to get not only the area of communication and the fifth grade of secondary school to get involved in this issue: but the entire educational institution can be part of this change with campaigns such as the creation of phrases, the cloth bag for my bread.
We also look for other ways that both students and the educational establishment propose proposals so that the community that surrounds us unites.
Professor Miguel Cabezas, from the area of education for work, helped us with the work in proposing a design contest for cloth bags, which inspired us to carry it out in the coming years with strength and better engagement.
The educational institution committed to this fight hand in hand with everyone such as the deputy director, parents, representatives of the APAFA and students, who we are sure that if we put on the shirt we will be able to use cloth bags for purchases.
