A month after the return to school in a new school year, the missionary families have already begun to find out prices and buy the different school supplies, uniforms and even shoes for children and adolescents. Misiones Online carried out a price survey both in the capital of Misiones and in some towns in the interior.
The phrase that is repeated among all those interviewed about this return to school in 2022 is: “there are many good expectations for this year”.
In this sense, Ricardo Arrieta, manager of the Posadas branch of the Libertad Hypermarket, highlighted that "a couple of weeks ago we began to receive orders for the start of classes, we have very good expectations because there is a little more certainty in which has to do with the start of classes, not like last year when we had slightly lower expectations”.
For her part, Gladys Berent from the Full Service bookstore, stated “considering what has happened in previous years, people are somewhat cautious, because they are afraid that everything will close again and they will keep all the purchases, so There aren't many lists. So far in January we have received at least 4 lists. Everything is very slow, very calm, so we are really waiting, because if it were to close we would melt. We couldn't get ahead anymore."
Supply lists for all families
What is pointed out in each bookstore consulted is that there are as many school lists as there are grades and schools, it is for them that prices can have a great variety.
And “for the youngest it is always more expensive because they carry a lot of teaching material, but sometimes there are no differences between private and public schools. These lists fluctuate between 6,000 and 8,000 pesos, depending on what the teachers ask for,” Berent remarked.
This fact, that the most expensive supply lists are for the youngest, is also confirmed by Verónica Ferreyra from Librería Imperio, who assured that, “mainly from the 3-bedrooms, nurseries, up to the 5-bedrooms They are the ones that are most valued in the market because they ask for more things than a little boy from 1st to 7th grade”.
Who added that, “the school lists come to us through social networks, Whats App or by showing up at the premises. We do not charge extra for the contributions, so that parents have a basis to know how much money they can spend”.
In the Imperio bookstore, “a base list starts at 3,500 and can reach 6,000 pesos. It depends on the school and the brands that they ask for, they are around 7,500 pesos, this is without a backpack and pencil case, they are personal options that range from 3,500 to 11,000 pesos”.
While Pablo Martínez, from Red bookstores, highlighted that, “we are full with all school lists, for all subjects. The list depends on each school, the cheapest are 2700, more or less and from there up. The price variation is linked to the quality of the products”.
And he added that, since the beginning of January, “every day there is a great movement of families. We have a good expectation, compared to previous years it is moving much more”.
In the San José Bookstore, in the missionary capital, “we work with all the school lists, a list of supplies for the elite 3-year-old would be around 7,000 pesos, in terms of stationery. Does not include books and manuals. While others can cost from 4,000 to 8,000 pesos," said José Guismin, manager of the store.
School uniforms and smocks
In the San José bookstore, it is also possible to buy the uniforms of 2 schools in Posada, there the values of "the sweater is from 1,200 to 1,500 pesos, the shirt at 1,100 pesos , gray skirts, approximately 1,800, Sarmiento brand pants around 3,000”.
While Santiago Pissani, owner of Pissani uniforms, said that “we are preparing to offer our clients all their uniforms. It costs a bit, because with this pandemic we don't have an idea of what they are going to buy and what they are not going to buy, because the logic of people to buy has changed a bit, so we are still learning every day about how to make stock ”.
And he added that, “prices were up 30% from what they were last year or so, 40% in some cases.” In reference to the costs, he said, “for the San Alberto school, for example, jacket, pants, and sweater, you have to calculate 10,000 pesos. Prices vary according to sizes. In Pissani they did not provide the detailed prices of the uniforms because they still have prices from last year, and the increase would take place in the coming days.
For her part, Andrea Larsen, owner of El Garage, assured that, "as every year we wait for parents, grandparents with a stock ready, we also take orders", adding that "some already buy, those who are cautious buy before going on vacation, others reserve, and there are also those who find out prices, payment methods”.
“We have 15 schools that are exclusive and we also have uniforms for other schools. that use the basic colors, such as blue, burgundy, and gray, for example. Complete uniforms range from 5,000 to 10,000 pesos. Prices have changed a lot compared to previous years, but we try to adapt to parents as well”, Larsen pointed out.
While in the Galver store, its manager Marcos Aumada, affirmed that, “the first days of February we will have all the products, sports equipment, divers and t-shirts. The classic school shirts and also the acrocel pants, which come in blue and grey, which are the most sought after”.
Although there are very few schools that continue to use the classic white overalls, in this store it is still possible to purchase them, "we have received the white overalls, both pleated and straight", and in reference to the prices Aumada pointed out that, " a pleated apron for girls in an initial size starts at 1,590 pesos, while for children they start at 1,290 pesos. The price will vary according to the sizes.

School shoes
the truth is that parents are anticipating and are buying little by little”.And he added that, “we have leather shoes from 3,900 pesos, depending on the brands, up to an average of 6,900 more or less. The most chosen by the students are the nautical shoes, while the Guillerminas continue to be the ones chosen for the little girls. But in high school, laced boat shoes or headbands are preferred, but boat shoes are the most recommended, due to their use and durability. We work with lines of cooked leather. It is a shoe that has to endure because it is used every day”.
On the other hand, in the New Chivas shoe store, it is also possible to find school shoes from 2,000 pesos, Guillerminas from 3,200 pesos and boat shoes from 4,200.
The options for starting school are varied, it is only a matter, as a well-known housewife said, “walking” downtown to obtain the best prices.
