Don Zapato closes after 40 years in Cartagena
"We can't take it anymore," explains the owner of Don Zapato, José Enrique Serna Sánchez, to LA OPINÓN, "we have gone through many crises during these four decades, but the coronavirus has been able to defeat us," he laments. Serna assures that "customers are afraid and at the moment there is no consumption, so we have no choice but to close."
The store informed its customers of the closure through its social networks with this emotional message: "A pleasure to have shoed grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters and so many impossible feet for 40 years. More than clients, you are family after so much time, sharing your joys, celebrations, some sorrows and also why not say it, playing psychologists on more than one occasion, and always giving our best with a smile".
The definitive closure will be on December 31, meanwhile, the trade will try to sell the footwear with a total liquidation.
The closure of Don Zapato leaves San Fernando Street practically empty of commercial activity. The Open Shopping Center of Cartagena is experiencing one of its worst stages, on November 30, Zara is also leaving Calle Mayor after 30 years, while other stores such as De Oliveira or Sasa have already done so during these months.
With the massive closure of commerce in the center of the port city, Cartagena runs the risk of becoming "a ghost town without any attraction or incentive to go out for a walk," says the owner of Don Zapato.
