Inspired by the movie "Don't Look Up!", the New Balance 550 arrives with meteorite fragments

While the controversy continues between the recent Adam McKay film, "Don't Look Up!" was the best or the worst of the year, Netflix and Sotheby's create an alliance with the sports brand New Balance for the launch of tennis shoes based on the classic New Balance 550 silhouette, but with a very exclusive and spatial twist, as they are made with fragments of meteorites to celebrate the much talked about film.

WHO GIVES MORE FOR THE SNEAKERS WORN BY MICHAEL JORDAN IN THE ORIGINAL SPACE JAM MOVIE

Out-of-this-world tennis right at your feet

If you haven't seen the movie and want to know what it has to do with the new Dibiasky New Balance 550, then we can tell you that it is a satire that criticizes the negligence of the US government and media in the face of the news discovered by two astronomers: Dr. Randall Mindy and Kate Dibiasky, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, on a large comet that is about to crash into planet Earth.

To celebrate the release of this film full of great personalities from the film industry, the sneakers, also called Dibiasky 550, have inlays from outer space -yes, literally-, because in the emblematic "N"-shaped logo of the signature glimpse pieces of real meteorites.

These fragments come from a dry Seymchan meteorite discovered in the Hekandue River in Magadan, Russia and were intervened by the sneaker customizer Matt Burgess, of MattBCustoms, who precisely cut each of the 34 pieces using a high-speed water jet. pressure, achieving a combination of colors ranging from black, amber and emerald.

"When you touch a chunk of rock that's been hurtling through space for a third of the time, it's hard not to feel humiliated by it," said Matt Burgess. "Creating this shoe was an experience that will stay with me forever."

As if that weren't enough, Burgess completed that extraterrestrial vibe, making use of space rock right down to the laces, with a latticework known as the Widmanstätten pattern stemming from the cooling of the meteorite in the characteristic climate of the cosmic vacuum for nearly 4.5 billion years.

Fans who want this cosmic pair will be left wanting, as this exclusive and unique shoe was auctioned for $13,200, through Sotheby's, making the Dibiasky New Balance 550 the most expensive sneakers to date.

His profits went to the World Wildlife Fund to try to reduce human impact on the environment.
