Leonor and Sofia mark their own profile on the blue carpet of the Campoamor
S. RODRIGUEZ
In June 2014, with the proclamation of Don Felipe as King of Spain, Leonor assumed the title of princess and an institutional role, then still to be defined. That day, Leonor and Sofía dressed identically, one in pink and the other in blue, with two little dresses of brocade fabric that bore, precisely, the signature of an Asturian designer. Two years ago, in her debut at the awards ceremony to which the heiress to the Crown gives her name, Leonor -rather her mother- chose another girlish dress for such an event, this time in blue.
This Friday, the arrival of the Princess and the Infanta at the Campoamor theater, the staging on the blue carpet, sent a message to the world: childishness is over. The daughters of the Kings, one about to turn 16 and the other on her way to 15, are already two young women called, yes, to top the lists of the most elegant. And each one with its own style, very different.
Princess Eleanor, who this year left her home, her family and friends, like so many teenagers her age, to study at a boarding school in Wales, surprised with a cocktail dress by Bgo & Me, which could well become her signature, since she also dressed it at the Princess of Girona Awards, then in red. This time it was a black and white checked model, with a straight short to the hip, from which a flared skirt started. For her third ceremony of the Princess of Asturias Awards, she wore sober black court shoes, with which she did not seem to feel very comfortable at first. And it was the first time that Leonor used so much heel. She completed her look with a high ponytail, very similar to the one her mother regularly wears, and gold hoops in the shape of bamboo, earrings that she also shares with the Queen from time to time.

AgenciesAlthough Leonor captured the attention because, obviously, she is the main protagonist of the ceremony, the one who attracted the most attention was the Infanta Sofía. The youngest of Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, already taller than her mother -some say that she has the elegant plant of the Infanta Elena-, risked with a long pink tulle skirt, signed by Psophía, and a black sweater with borrowed rhinestones for her mother. The Queen, then a princess, wore it for the gala dinner – along with a long black skirt – in honor of the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, in March 2011. As footwear, again black flat ballerinas.
In rigorous black, Doña Letizia returned strong to Oviedo. This ceremony has always been special to her. Because he plays at home. For years she triumphed with the outfits that Felipe Varela created for her. Already last year, in the sober delivery due to the covid, he did not decide on any dress from who had been his head designer. And this Friday, neither. She chose a taffeta model, with a retro air, from The 2nd Skin, impressive, which gave more prominence to the twin bracelets and the chaton earrings, jewels that only the queens of Spain can wear.
Precisely, Doña Sofía, faithful to the Oviedo ceremony, wore a two-piece in pink, with prints and gradients. A much happier tone than the ones that the emeritus queen usually uses. Paloma Rocasolano, the other grandmother of the Princess of Asturias, who always occupies a preferential place in the stalls since her daughter married Don Felipe, dressed in black and white.
