Shoes, jackets, lingerie and shirts: how to take care of clothes so that they last longer, according to experts
The order, neatness and care of clothing in a wardrobe is essential. A clean shirt, a lint-free coat, healthy shoes, well-kept lingerie and well-kept wallets make and make a difference when it comes to looking impeccable.
For this reason, Infobae spoke with designers and experts to share their advice to keep garments "like new".
Leather, cloth and suede coats and coats
With the cold and low temperatures these garments are the protagonists. Their care must be extreme, since they are preferred for daily use in winter and are in direct contact with the outside.
Suede is one of the most delicate fabrics. For jackets, it is recommended to store them with some protection such as a plastic or fabric cover.
The cloth is the one that suffers the most from contact with other garments. The remains of fluff from sweaters or scarves remain on the fabric of coats and jackets, giving an appearance of dirt. A trick that never fails to leave the coat impeccable is to put paper tape or adhesive tape on the garment and gently remove the fluff.
With regard to leather, there are several ointments and special products for the protection and long-lasting of the garment. When storing these coats in the dressing room -like the suede ones-, the best way to take care of them is to cover them with covers to protect them from rubbing.
Yarn and wool sweaters
These garments are some of the most prone to snagging and starting to lose the weft of the yarn. Some of the factors that cause breakage can be bracelets, clasps, rings or even the nails themselves.
Many times the mistake is made of cutting the thread that protrudes from the garment with scissors. This should not be done as it may start to open the break further. To do this, it is best to use a sewing needle or a stick to put the thread back into the garment.
Graciela Zito, Juliana Awada's favorite designer, revealed some secrets to maintain the fabrics: "I wash them with glycerin soap. Well rinsed and with just a little powdered soap. And then to dry, I spread it out on a towel.
Shoes and slippers
The footwear according to its material has a different care. Canvas shoes are the easiest to wash. Many people wash them directly in the washing machine, others by hand and let them dry on their own.
Women's shoes, for better preservation, are usually kept in the same boxes in which they were purchased, or in fabric covers. If they are left out of their boxes and the material is leather or suede, it gets dirty easily.
The designer Sol Tosone shared with Infobae how she differentiated the care of the sole and the upper part according to the different types of materials: leather, suede and patent leather.
For leather, Tosone recommends not only pomades but also furniture polish that makes it shine. This is applied with a flannel: "The product is never applied directly on the shoe, but on the flannel, and thus wet the shoe is cleaned". Another tip shared by the expert is that if it gets stained, with the white pencil eraser it comes right off.
For patent leather, it is easy to clean with a slightly damp cloth. Suede is a "treacherous" material as any product applied quickly absorbs it . "You should never wet it. If it gets stained, it can be erased with an eraser or a dry brush. You have to be very careful because it is easily damaged."
Regarding the sole, Sol Tosone explained that its care depends on the type of product. If she's a ballerina, she suggests going to the neighborhood shoemaker to have a rubber suede put on her. This suede protects against wear, but, for example, it is not worn on the stiletto. In addition to fulfilling the function of protecting the sole, it prevents slipping on slippery floors.

"For boots, the heel is the footprint. Many boots today have a rubber cap as a support that at the end of the season it is recommended to change it so that they are in good condition for the next one. If it continues to be used, it is very likely that, when walking, , the leather begins to weaken and break".
Regarding the storage of the shoes, she recommended that they not be squeezed together or folded, since leather is like paper that is easily marked. She suggested that paper -clean- can be placed inside to fill them and not lose their shape. "If there are stains on the shoe, it is best to remove them, since if it is left in the next season it may appear more marked and even enlarged."
Wallets and bags
Like shoes, wallets and bags are accessories that, depending on the material, require extreme care to keep them looking new.
There are wallets of all kinds of textiles: leather, patent leather, plastic, PVC, suede, waterproof, among others. And for these to last much longer, it is advisable to store them in the little bags that the brands provide for that purpose.
Men's and women's shirts
Both men's and women's white shirts are the most prone to damage and discoloration and yellowing at the collars and underarms from the use of antiperspirants or deodorants. In addition, beard rubbing in the case of men and the use of makeup in women can damage necks.
Its washing must be done in the washing machine except for some delicate fabrics such as silks, which must be washed by hand.
But the greatest caution that should be taken is during ironing. A minimum temperature error of the iron can cause a breakage or even make holes and completely spoil the garment. Many times it is recommended to place a cloth over the fabric to avoid these problems.
Lingerie
Men's and women's underwear is in direct contact with the skin, so its good and repeated washing is very important to avoid unexpected allergic reactions.
So that push-up or padded bras do not lose their shape, it is best to store them in a drawer one behind the other. Bralettes, sports bralettes and triangle bralettes are folded just like the different types of panties and stockings.
Jesús Fernández, a lingerie designer, revealed to Infobae that "the best way to wash it is by hand with cold water and with toilet soap or like clothes rinses. For delicate fabrics such as satin and lace, that is the best shape so that the garment lasts a long time".
Correct reading of garment labels
In dialogue with Infobae, spokesmen for the Argentine Industrial Chamber of Clothing (CIAI) advised to carefully read the "textile composition label", which is usually sewn to the garment. Said label is the one required by Resolution 287/2000.
These same labels must have "Technical Regulations for the Labeling of Textile Products" with the corresponding information that includes: name/company name of the manufacturer, country of origin, indication of the name of the fibers or filaments and their composition expressed as a percentage, care treatment for the conservation of said garment and the size, for a correct use of the garment and to avoid future damages.
Not only the data of the garment is read, but also the ordered symbols: washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional textile care: "These symbols must always be taken into account because they provide specific information: at what maximum temperature should the garment be washed? garment, if it should be washed by hand, if the use of bleaching agents is allowed or not, how it should be dried, the maximum temperature for ironing".
